CHARLES W. SHABICA, Ph.D., P.G. leads A Brief History of the Escarpment-the last 450 million years.

Educated at Brown, Yale and the University of Chicago, Shabica is President of Shabica & Associates, Inc., Coastal Scientists and Engineers, and is Emeritus Professor of Earth Science, Northeastern Illinois University. He specializes in design, engineering and monitoring of sustainable shore protection systems with emphasis on beach and wetland preservation. 

Research sponsored by Field Museum, Great Lakes Commission, Illinois DNR, National Geographic Society, National Parks Service, NOAA and USGS includes: Study of and explanation of 307 MYBP Mazon Creek flood deposits in the Midwest; Performance of shore protection structures; Beach and ravine stabilization; Coastal sand management; Reduction of non-point source pollution; Exploration of Paleoindian sites in Lake Michigan; Restoration and management of coastal bluffs, beaches and wetlands.
